Brooklyn's Third Annual Atlantic Avenue ARTWALK on for June 3 & 4, 2006
Showcasing Established and Emerging Artists, ARTWALK06, a Two-day Tour of Galleries, Open Studios, Exhibits and Public Art, Spans Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill, and Downtown Brooklyn Along Atlantic Avenue
Brooklyn, New York, March 9, 2005 - The third annual Atlantic Avenue ARTWALK will be held on Saturday and Sunday, June 3 & 4, 2006, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. on each day. ARTWALK06 showcases emerging and established artists through open artist studios, gallery shows, public art projects, and special events. Running through Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill and Downtown Brooklyn along Brooklyn's historic and trendy Atlantic Avenue between Hicks Street and Fourth Avenue, this tour and its events are free and open to the public.
ARTWALK06, a community-based annual event, is made possible through collaboration with local galleries, merchants, bars and restaurants. Atlantic Avenue ARTWALK06 will provide a relaxed forum to meet artists, view and buy work, and have a great weekend walking along Atlantic Avenue and its immediate area, where many restaurants and bars will be offering specials to tour goers.
Maps, guides and artist biographies provided to the public make the tour a perfect setting for dialogue, collecting, and learning first hand about current bodies of work directly from the artists. Artists will open their private studios for ARTWALK06 giving the public a rare glimpse into the artist's workspace and creative process.
ARTWALK06 will feature a diversity of work such as paintings, sculpture, watercolor, photography, digital media, and textiles, by both established and emerging artists. Artists who have participated in the past have exhibited in a diverse array of institutions including the New Museum, Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA), London Fashion & Textile Museum, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Dyezu Experiment Gallery Tokyo, Williamsburg Art & Historical Center, Contemporary African Art Gallery, Metaphor Contemporary Art, New York Watercolor Society, and Brooklyn Museum.
Designed to increase exposure for participating local artists, organizations and area businesses, ARTWALK has been successful in gaining media attention and foot traffic to this rich cultural corridor which enjoys a meaningful connection to the arts. Building on the success of the two prior ARTWALKs, anticipated programming for this year's event will include even more music, film, public art projects, such as murals, and activities for families and children of all ages.
Atlantic Avenue Art Walk is produced by COlab Projects and the Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation with production support from the Atlantic Avenue Betterment Association. This event is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts. In Kings County their Decentralization Program is administered by the Brooklyn Arts Council, Inc. (BAC).
